Capitoline Hill in early Rome

In ancient Rome, Capitoline hill was the major defensive point of the city. In fact, in 390 Capitoline Hill was the only place in the city not raided by barbarians. The reason the hill is the major defensive part of the city is because it is the highest pint of the city, and because of the dangerously sharp shards of rock that laid beneath it. In he earlier times, the generals would throw their enemies off the top of the hill and into the shards beneath it. Ouch!
