Mondays blog

Here are my three favorites:

My first favorite was http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/prehistory/aegean/. I liked this one because it showed you icons that you could pick and then learn information on that link. Also the wording was pretty easy for anyone to understand.

My second favorite was http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/subjects/ancientgreece.htm . This is because It is like a textbook. You choose which topic you want to look at and the link will take you to it. The also have pictures.

And my third choice would be http://history.howstuffworks.com/ancient-greece/ancient-greece.htm. This one I just liked how they had the information laid out.

The Hero’s Adventure

I agree with Campbell, because war back then basically decided who the hero’s were. In modern day, their aren’t as many heroes as their were in ancient Greece. In ancient Greece their were good people and evil people. In modern day, people don’t actually know who the heroes are. For example people thought that Michael Jackson was a good man, but actually Michael Jackson committed child abuse. That shows that people don’t know what heroes are in todays world.

The Origins of Athens

2. Their were many different important things in ancient Greece before Athens was established. Herodotus, from the History, it was the Spartans and the Athenians that were in ancient Greece. In the days of Kecrops and the first kings, the divided into communes. It also had to do with the history of the Peloponnesian War. Thesus, dissolved all the distinct statehouses, then Theseus gave the name Athens to the whole state, creating a common feast and a sacrifice.

Hero

1. I disagree with Campbell because I believe everybody in the military is a hero. They are heroes because they are sacrificing themselves for the good of their country. Another example would be firefighters and policeman. They fight fires and go inside them to save people and they could die by doing that. Policeman fight bad guys try to protect innocent people even if it means they would make a sacrifice. The plane that landed in the hudson river. Those pilots saved everybody in the plane and the plane crashed into the Hudson River. That was heroic because they were brave and saved everybody even though they could have all died when the plane's engines stopped. There are heroes everyday so I disagree with Campbell.

Joseph Campbell " The Hero's adventure"

  • Joseph Campbell tells us how the people of today do not seem to be very spiritual and are not connected to the world around them. In my opinion I think that this is true on some ways but not in others. I do agree with J.C because in the world today people are very lazy. Most people don't worry about the things around them as much, they are lazy and when a chance does come for them to help someone or something they usually just pass it by thinking that someone else will do it, but not all people are like this. Some people do take that opportunity and help the people around them or do try to help with every chance that they get. Some of the people that like to help others could be the military or the army. These people risk there lives in order to save hundreds or thousands or others. Then there is the other people that do try but at the same time feel that they are not very important. Some people feel this way because They look at the world as a whole and they see how many people there are, or they think that they are just not very important and can not make a big difference. With these people they end up giving up on what they wanted or they settle with what they already have never trying to go for something new or better.

  • " Reports for the origins of Athens"- - - - - In the beginning of the pages in the section about Herodotus it is explaining how Athens was before it came to be. Before Athens the people were separated into two different groups. One of the groups, the Pelasgi, were adventurers. This group enjoyed to travel and spread out into different tribes that were very small, also as they separated there language, as the other group stayed in the same place and kept there original language. As you move through the periods and the paragraphs it showed me how the rules changed and the people and tribes evolved. In Plutarch it shows how much the people finally had changed. It showed how they got together and formed a society and how it worked. Then in the final paragraph it shows how the society went down and how people became enslaved. At first Athens was a non community and they were peaceful with each other. Towards the end they no longer were peaceful and started to slowly treat each other differently.
