Oedipus Post

“For you came here, to our Cadmeian city, and freed us from the tribute we were paying to that cruel singer” -Line(40-43) “My poor children, I know why you have come- I am not ignorant of what we yearn for.”(67-68). Oedipus is saying to the people of the land that he is not ignorant and that he is a good person. He told them in a hint way before, and before actually showing them that he is not ignorant. ”The action takes place in Thebes.” The people of Thebes kind of got a hint that Oedipus was coming through the palace doors and that the priest would most likely be their too. Before Oedipus entered through the palace doors the people had a thought of that.

2. Oedipus is saying that if the person who murdered the king has to reveal him self. Oedipus is also saying that who ever murdered the king doesn’t reveal him self then the charges and the consequences will be more severe. Fate is development of events and justice is basically a behavior. If the person that killed the king doesn’t reveal him self any time soon then his consequences and charges will become more severe and it could be possible that it is death. Oedipus is also saying that if somebody knows that the killer is a stranger, from some other state, let him not stay mute. If the killer is from another state than they must reveal him as quickly as possible.

3.Define:

Suppliants: Suppliants basically means a beggar. It could also mean a person who is in the lower class begging and asking for something from someone who extraordinary amount of power.

Saviour: A saviour is a person who saves something or someone. For example an example of saviour could be superman, he is a saviour because he saves people and does good things. But a saviour doesn’t necessarily have to be a person, a saviour could also be a person who puts out a fire at their neighbors home.

Shrine: Shrine is basically a place that is holy. For example a temple or a church for the Jewish and the Christian faith is considered a place that is holy.

Prophesies: A prophesies is basically saying that something will happen in the future. For example a prophesies could be about hover cars in the future. Prophesies could also mean inspiration.
