Anagnorisis

Ever since 7th grade I have always had a weakness for History class. English, Math, and Science were always pretty easy for me and I enjoyed the classes, as well as looking forward to going to school each day. History class was hard, really hard, for me. The subjects either did not interest me or we just kept covering the same material. I always had to force my self to pay attention and not fall asleep in that class, I would take notes in many different formats and I would look over the material about three times a week. On the homework and class work I always got good grades usually A’s sometimes B’s, but whenever we had a test I would always flunk it. One time I ended up getting a bad grade on my quarter report card, and so my homework schedule had to change. After school I would always take the buss home, school ended at 3:30 and I usually got home at about 3:45 - 4:00. Once I got home I would start my nightly homework and try to finish as fast as I could, but once I was done with that, my grandmother would then help me with my history. We would go over my homework and then look at the notes I had, and make notecards for the coming up test. I usually finished my homework at 5:30 or 6 and then from 6 to 10:30-11 I would study my humanities notes. I did this every single night I would memorize the information and then my grams would test me. Whatever I missed we would go back over and then she would retest me again. We continued to do this until i knew all the information, studying for about 4 to 5 hours on just history. The next test I got all A’s and B’s on passing them easily, but once a test was over I always had to start studying for the next one. On the last test for my 3rd Quarter I had been studying really hard hoping that I would get and A or B like all the rest of the test. Then next day I walked into class and when I got the test I knew everything and finished pretty quickly. Since I had lots of time I went over the test two more times making sure I had done everything, then I got up and turned it in. The next day when the teacher handed back the test I saw that I had gotten a C- , I didn’t know what I had done wrong. When I looked over the answers I realized I had hurried through the information while studying, and had studied the wrong information. I ended up getting a B that quarter. I was sad I had not gotten the A I had wished for but new that I deserved a B ‘cause I had been lazy and not checked my notecards before studying.

  1. Such a terrible feeling, Victoria. Good work slowly building the story here.
